We’ve had an unusual visitor to our garden (above) He’s been several times to hunt for insects to eat – not sure what type of bird he is.
Our new grapevine has some tiny grapes appearing and should provide some shade this summer.

He looks very much like a heron to me. They usually go for fish and in the UK are a scourge of people’s goldfish ponds.
That was my thought too.
I thought he might be a heron but we don’t have any fish or water around. He seemed to be finding insects or small lizards to eat.
I would love to have this visitor in my yard!! But my neighbour with a fish pond would probably disagree….
We have a similarly large bird visits the school ground, usually after recess-handy to clean up the food scraps!
Hm, he’s quite a long way from water!
We think your visitor could be a blue crane.
Interesting – thanks Dorothy & nice to hear from you – hope you’re well.
I think you’ll find that it’s the white-faced heron. We have one here, and it hunts for skinks.
Thank you Ken.
